COP30, to be celebrated in November 2025 in Belém, Brazil, promises to be a milestone in the climate battle. Not only because it will take place in the heart of the Amazon, a key ecosystem for the stability of the planet, but also because young people are determined to change the course of the climate crisis.

Over the past few years, young people have led massive climate strikes, pushed for environmental litigation and pressured governments and companies to take concrete action. At COP30, their role will be more influential than ever: they will have exclusive spaces at the summit, representation in key forums and an active voice in official negotiations.

Among the main demands are:

Phase out fossil fuels and accelerate the transition to renewable energy.

Ensure climate finance for developing countries, prioritizing adaptation and resilience.

Guarantee climate justice, ensuring that indigenous and vulnerable communities are part of decision making.

Incorporate climate education into school systems globally.

The choice of Belém as host emphasizes the urgency of protecting the Amazon, considered the lungs of the planet. However, deforestation, fires and the expansion of the agricultural frontier threaten its future.

Young people are demanding real commitments to halt the destruction of this ecosystem and ensure the implementation of agreements such as the Glasgow Declaration on Forests.

The world is watching to see whether COP30 will mark a turning point in climate history or whether it will become another summit of empty promises. Young people no longer accept excuses and are determined to directly influence decision-making. With time running out and the climate crisis worsening, COP30 could be one of the last chances to avoid a crisis point of no return.
